If you are a British MMA fan, then you would know about BAMMA, and the amazing talent it has on offer, but when it comes to watching their events, unless you were there live, it was damn near impossible to watch the main card live.
Yes Lonsdale and Unilad put the prelims on their Facebook, but the hyped fights, the rising talent, the ones you wanted to see, just were not accessible, unless of course you wanted to wait until the early hours of the morning to watch highlights on Channel 5, or wait a couple of days and watch it on Spike.
Well panic no longer, as BAMMA announced on 27th April via their twitter, that from BAMMA 29 at the Genting Arena in Birmingham, you will be able to watch their main card LIVE! And on DAVE no less.
DAVE as a channel have dabbled in showing live sporting events in the past, and some will remember last year they even had to boxing cards live, both of which featured David ‘The Haymaker’ Haye, in what can only be described as televised sparring.
But the fact that combat sport is growing in popularity again, and MMA as a whole is becoming more accepted in the general UK market, helped in part with regular shows by the UFC on our shores, CageWarriors and of course BAMMA. And having home grow stars like Dan Hardy, Ross Pearson, Marc Diakiese and of course UFC Middleweight Champion Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping, has certainly helped matters.
This of course has probably played some part in the partnership between the two, and what will be more pleasing to everyone in the UK, is that as we all know DAVE is completely free!
So no more having to pay for Fight Pass (even though I still would) or paying for BT Sport, if you want to watch the growing British and European talent, you can get the main card for free, and get your MMA fix.
However with it only being the main card, no doubt, as they do on the catch up shows, there will be highlights of the prelims, with most people probably wanting to tune in to see how MMA newcomer, and Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers gets on in his first ever fight that wasn’t screened on MTV or down the BIgg Market!
Also in my humble opinion, they couldn’t have picked a better card to start with, with the likes of Rick Selvarajah, Chris Miah and Ronnie Mann on the card, it also includes Four title fights! Yes you read that right.
You will get to see Tim Barnett go up against Mario Saeed for the Lonsdale Lightweight title, Terry Brazier vs Walter Gahadza for the vacant Lonsdale Welterweight title, Yannick Bahati and Matt Halam going face to face for the BAMMA World Middleweight Title, all culminating in a Heavyweight main-event as Brett McDermott faces Ruben Wolf for the BAMMA Heavyweight title.
BAMMA 29 comes from the Genting Arena in Birmingham on May 12th, and if you can’t make it to the event, Unilad will have the prelims on their Facebook cage, and the Main card will now be live on DAVE!
